Meet the Founder
I’m Erin Schaum, a Registered Nurse and Legal Nurse Consultant based in Indiana. Long before nursing I planned to become an attorney and I even spent time working with a local prosecutor’s office. Ultimately, my path shifted and I chose nursing instead. I spent over a decade advocating for patients in the Emergency Department and Critical Care Unit with compassion, precision, and critical thinking. Over time, I realized the bedside wasn’t the final chapter of my career and I found a way to bridge two things I’ve always loved: medicine and the legal field. Now, I help attorneys cut through medical complexity, spot what others miss, and bring clinical clarity to their legal strategy. I launched Aperture Legal Nurse Consulting to bridge the gap between medical facts and legal strategy, giving attorneys a clinical ally who’s as logical as she is compassionate. I help uncover the real story in the medical record, whether that means identifying care failures or defending providers who did everything right. At the heart of every case is a human being and I never lose sight of that. Aperture isn’t just a consulting business. It’s the product of a career built on compassion, a brain wired for critical thinking, and a soul that can’t sleep if the truth is ignored.

Why Work With Aperture Legal Nurse Consulting?
- Real clinical experience– Over a decade of bedside nursing not just credentials, but judgment earned through years of hands-on patient care.
- Next-level attention to detail– I don’t skim and summarize. I analyze, question, and uncover what others miss — including omissions and inconsistencies that can make or break a case.
- Critical thinking beyond AI– AI can organize records, but it can’t think. It doesn’t ask clinical questions, detect what’s missing, or recognize red flags. I review AI-generated reports to ensure they’re accurate, complete, and legally reliable.
- Cost-effective clarity– I help you avoid chasing weak claims and highlight the strongest aspects of your case- saving time, reducing risk, and protecting your bottom line.
- No fluff, just truth– I deliver honest, case-specific evaluations grounded in clinical reality. My reports are strategic tools, not generic summaries.
- Attorney-focused communication– Everything I produce is designed for use in demand letters, depositions, and courtroom strategy- clear, concise, and actionable.
- Access to a trusted provider network– When your case calls for it, I bring in a vetted network of seasoned medical professionals with decades of experience across specialties- ready to review, consult, or testify.
